DB seizes 6,600 MFS SIMs in Gazipur and Cumilla gambling raids

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch arrested six alleged members of an online gambling network in Gazipur (Tongi) and Cumilla and seized 6,600 SIM cards linked to MFS accounts, The Daily Star and BSS reported on 16 July 2026.

Additional Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam said device forensics indicated about Tk 5 crore a day in transactions, later converted to cryptocurrency and sent abroad. Police also seized 67 other SIMs, more than 70 phones, a laptop and a microbus.

BSS reported the syndicate allegedly worked for Go Pay. Shafiqul said preliminary findings pointed to a Chinese national identified as Natan as the suspected overseas boss and that efforts to arrest him were under way. He also gave a preliminary estimate that platforms in Bangladesh processed Tk 700–1,000 crore a day — a police estimate, not an audited total.

Reporting from The Daily Star, BSS and Prothom Alo, 16 July 2026. Arrests are allegations until a court decides.
