BFIU moves to freeze about 14,000 more MFS accounts over gambling and hundi links

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit decided to freeze about 14,000 more mobile financial service accounts over alleged links to online gambling and digital hundi, a senior BFIU official told The Business Standard in early August 2026.

The official said about 10,000 MFS accounts had been frozen in the previous month, that the new batch was already under way, and that steps were being taken to stop people whose accounts were frozen over gambling-related activity from opening new MFS accounts on the same national identity cards.

Reporting from The Business Standard, August 2026. These freezes are a separate batch from the earlier parliamentary figure of about 55,000 and should not be added together as a single total.
