Detective Branch officers arrested four people, including three Chinese nationals, in Bashundhara Residential Area on 1 August 2026 over an alleged online gambling and fraud network using SIM gateways, The Business Standard and The Financial Express reported.
Those named were Liu Hui Zhang, 46; Wei Yuji, 30; She Yi Ran, 42; and Jhorna Chakma Ziana, 27. Police said they seized 14 laptops, 16 phones, more than 6,000 SIMs, 20 gateway machines and about Tk 209,700 in cash.
Additional Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam said the six-storey building was largely let to Chinese occupants, that one phone was wired for 12 SIMs, and that IMEI numbers were being changed. He claimed the network moved Tk 200–250 crore a month through a single gateway from gambling and other illegal earnings — a police claim for one gateway, not a national total.
